As well as founding the Metro Sports Club for the Blind in 1973, Mike was involved in the setting up of a number of national sports bodies for the disabled including:
He has also served on a number of working parties, such as Sport England’s Strategy Group, and the Lawn Tennis Association’s Tennis for the Disabled advisory group. He was also a committee member of the Disability Advisory Committee for the London Olympic Games 2009 - 2012.
Mike has been Chairman and a founder member of British Blind Sport, and was elected Chairman of the British Paralympic Association in February 2001. Following the success of the Paralympic Team in Athens he was re-elected in February 2005 and stood down in November 2008.
He was a member of the Board of the successful Olympic and Paralympic 2012 Bid Team from October 2003 to 2005, and was a full Board member of the London Organising Committee (LOCOG) from 2005 until February 2009.
He then served on the London 2012 Diversity Board from 2009 until the completion of the games in 2012.
Mike was also the Chairman of the City of London Sport and Physical Activity Network until 2012.
Mike helped to establish the UK Anti-doping Agency for sport and served as a Board Member/Director from 2009 to March 2016.
Mike is currently a Trustee and Chair of The Disability Sports Development Trust, Chair of Sight Action Havering, and a Trustee of The Primary Club. He is also a committee member of the Department of Transport’s Disabled Passengers Transport Advisory Committee
He served as a Governor, from 2006 to 2015, of the University of East London
He is the Non-Executive Chairman of Nemisys and investor/share holder in Contact Engine, (two companies specialising in IT solutions for companies, sporting bodies and charities).
